No support for Dark Heresy

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Ok.

So it isn’t really modern. It isn’t really conspiracy in the classical sense. But it is such a cool game. Dark Heresy licensed by Fantasy Flight Games from Games Workshop is an excellent game. But GW and FFG have a clear policy about fan-based content, even if I disagree with it. I suspect it all stems from losing control on 40k rules from free or kind of free periodicals in the past. (Is the Inquisitor still around?). Can’t control the canon with  a bunch of amateurs mixing it up. It is all about control ’cause the difference in revenue is not that great.

Anyway here is the reponse to our standard request to support the game system:

“Games Workshop (from whom we license the Warhammer 40,000 setting used in Dark Heresy) does not allow such an endeavour to feature GW properties, and as such, we cannot offer you such a license.”

Oh well.

1st Issue is Nearing Release

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Well,

It has been a strange ride. We received enough submissions (and a couple from our editor brethren) to complete our first issue:

  • A couple of adventures (one for Dark Conspiracy® and one for Unknown Armies®)
  • A couple of fine works of fiction (I think it is the first publication for both writers)
  • A few Demonseeds (Tales of Terror concept expanded to include other game systems — these are CoC though)
  • Some house rules and a Dark Race for DC.
  • Big guns, nasty monsters, and other grab bag niceties!
  • The first of many regular columns:  Under the Floorboards.

I probably forgot something. The issue is in final proofing and will be published certainly before Gen Con Indy 2009.

Protodimension Magazine™ is an online publication with its formatting optimized for online viewing. We are trying to keep the file size below 10Mb, which means that print resolutions are sacrificed. If you have to have a high-resolution print-ready file, email me once the issue is published.

Cheers!
